What London Homeowners Actually Pay for Christmas Lights (2026)

Real 2026 figures from London jobs — terraces, semis and large detached homes — what moved the price each time, and where the money actually goes.

Professional Christmas light installation in London and the South East for 2026 typically costs between £1,500 for a small London terrace and £3,000–£8,000+ for a large detached home, with most clients in areas like Richmond, Esher or St Albans investing around £1,800 for a complete service.

Why pricing is rarely straightforward

Few companies publish prices, for a few honest reasons:

  • Every property is unique. A two-bedroom terrace in Barnes has a very different roofline and access requirement to a five-bedroom detached house in Beaconsfield.
  • Quality varies dramatically. Commercial-grade, IP67-rated LED systems cost more to supply than consumer-grade lights from a DIY store, but last far longer and look better.
  • "Service" isn't standardised. Some quotes cover installation only; ours includes bespoke design, all lights and hardware, an insured team, a maintenance guarantee, and optional January takedown and storage.

2026 price guide by property type

All prices are for a complete service — design through to installation — with the display bought as part of the job and kept by you unless you add takedown and storage.

A very large or complex design on a smaller property could cost more than the range above; a simple design on a large property could cost less. We work with you to fit the design to your budget.

What changes your final quote

FactorWhat it affects
Scope of designRoofline only vs windows, doorways, pillars, tree wrapping or wreaths — tree wrapping is time-intensive and raises cost the most
Size & complexityLinear footage of lighting required; steep pitches, dormers and hard-to-reach areas add time
Access & safetyStandard ladders for most two-storey homes; scaffold towers or a cherry picker for higher or more complex properties — costs are itemised in your quote
Light style & add-onsIcicle lights cost more per foot than string lights; illuminated wreaths and staircase garlands add to the design

DIY vs professional: the real numbers

ItemDIY cost
Good quality lights~£400
Gutter clips, extension leads, timers~£100
A safe ladder~£150+
First-year DIY outlay£650+

That figure ignores your time — typically a full weekend of research, shopping, installation and January takedown — plus the real risk of a ladder fall, and a result that rarely matches a professional's straight lines and even spacing.
