2. 2Approach. The gate, drive and trees often matter more from the street view than the house.
3. 3Power. Circuits need proper planning on a display pulling 1.5–3 kW.

What actually gets lit on a Surrey estate

A typical St George's Hill or Wentworth job has five layers:

• The approach. Wrapped trees either side of the entrance gates, sometimes with a discreet warm white pin-light treatment on the gate piers.
• The driveway. On long drives, every third or fourth verge tree wrapped to a uniform height (typically 4–6m).
• The house roofline. Continuous warm white along every eaves run, with attention to dormers, gable peaks and chimney lines.

A meaningful share of properties in Cobham, Oxshott and Wentworth include outbuildings — stable blocks, guest cottages, pool houses, gym pavilions, garages of three to six bays. There is a real choice:

• Light only the main house for a tightly composed, formal look from the front.
• Light the whole compound so the estate reads as one illuminated piece from above and from the gate.

We tend to recommend the second where guests arrive in the dark and walk between buildings — the cost difference is meaningful but so is the experience.
